R.I. Youth Programs
Rotary has many youth programs; do you know about them?

What is Rotaract?
Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are usually community-based or university-based and are sponsored by a local Rotary club making them true "partners in service" and key members of the Rotary family.

Through the Rotaract program, young adults not only augment their knowledge and skills, but they also address the physical and social needs of their communities while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service.

All Rotaract efforts begin at the local grassroots level and all Rotaract clubs have access to the many resources of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.

As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service, with more than 7,500 Rotaract clubs in some 155 countries, Rotaract has become a worldwide phenomenon.

Lots of interesting information on line at the Rotary International web site: http://www.rotary.org/programs/rotaract/index.html ; Interact and Youth Exchange will be highlighted in upcoming issues of the Rotooter.

New Members
Perhaps a bit too non-Canadian, but the message still remains a good one. We do need new members to share with us the great things about Rotary, but they don’t just come knocking at our door. We need to go out and get them. Every one of us should know someone who would make a good Rotarian, so let’s all come up with one name, approach them and bring them out to a meeting - soon. Nobody will lose if we do it; everybody will lose if we don’t!

What is a Make-up?

Perhaps you have heard someone in Rotary talk about a Make-up – that’s when a Rotarian visits another club to attend one of their meetings when unable to attend their own club meeting that week. There is currently a ‘window’ of two weeks before and two weeks after the missed meeting

Bill Elliott has the world directory for Rotary International, on CD and burned a copy for Fred Hill. Fred offered to print out specific pages for folks who might be traveling and want to do a make-up. You can also log onto the RI website at www.rotary.org  and go to Meeting Locations to find out the times and places.

There are a lot of friendly clubs nearby where you can make-up, including:

Highlands – Lord Dufferin Centre Wed 7:30am
Palgrave – Birch Street Hall Wed 6:30pm
Erin – David’s Restaurant Tues 7:15am
Shelburne meets the same time and day we do so not many of us make-up there.

There are others shown on the District website at www.rotary7080.org

THE FOUR WAY TEST

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

DISTRICT 7080 CODE OF GOOD CONDUCT
Rotary Clubs place great emphasis on their work with young people, the elderly and people with disabilities. This volunteer effort is vital to the quality of life in our communities and to the good reputation of Rotary and Rotarians. For this good work to continue it is important that our Rotary Clubs protect the interests of everyone involved.

It is the responsibility of every Rotarian to safeguard to the best of their ability the welfare of every person with whom they come into contact during their activities as a Rotarian. Special attention is to be given to children, the elderly, the disabled and other vulnerable persons. This includes the prevention and reporting of physical, sexual or emotional abuse.

A District 7080 Abuse Protocol is in place, for details please contact the Club President. Our club contact
for reporting issues is any one of the President, President-Elect or Past President.
